What is the difference in annuals and perennials?
- Perennials come back every year. Annuals must be replanted.
When is it time to plant annuals?
- After the danger of our last freeze -- usually by mid-April. Some annuals like Periwinkle and Moss Rose actually do better if the soil temperature is even warmer -- in May. Although Pansies are cold hardy annuals and are planted in the Fall.
Do you sell groundcover?
- Yes, Vinca Major, Vinca Minor, Moneywort -- both green and golden, Sedum -- numerous varieties, Aguga, Coloratus, Potentilla, Verbena and Ground Ivy. We will be glad to bring in other ground covers that we do not stock on a regular basis if it is available.
How often do I need to water my flowers?
- They need to be checked twice per day when newly planted. They have a small root system and it can dry out quickly if it is hot or windy.
What are some flowers that do well in shade?
- Begonia, Impatiens, Caladiums, Coleus, Lobelia, Hosta, Hollyhock.
What are some flowers that do well in full sun?
- Mexican Heather, Dianthus, Geranium, Moss Rose, Petunia, Purslane, Salvia, Marigold, Verbena, Canna, Daisy, Coreopsis, Mum, Blanket Flower, Periwinkle. Periwinkle and Moss Rose will do better if planted late April to mid May when the soil temperature is warmer. In the heat of Summer almost all plants will do best with some late afternoon shade if possible.
