Do you carry bulbs?
- We carry both perennial and annual bulbs as well as spring and summer bulbs.
Spring bulbs include: Tulips, Daffodils, Hyacinths, Narcissi, Muscari, Allium, Crocus and Anemone. These can be planted in the fall (between Thanksgiving and Christmas) for an early spring flower. If you buy early you are assured to get a good selection. Store in refrigerator, away from apples, until time to plant. A little bone meal in the bottom of the hole will help your bulbs perform well in spring.
Summer bulbs include: Caladium, Elephant Ears, and Cannas (tuber). These can be planted in early spring when ground temperatures reach 65-68 degrees. Cannas will then come up every year. They can be divided in early spring for propagation Caladiums will need to be taken out of the soil in fall before a freeze. They can be stored in a dry container to keep from rotting. Elephant Ears can be planted in early spring at a depth of 12 inches from the top of the bulb. This will protect them from the winter freeze. When planted at this depth, it will take a longer period of time to show growth, but it is worth the hassle of not having to dig them every fall.
Do I need to fertilize my bulbs?
- Yes! The best thing to use on most bulbs is bone meal. The amount will vary depending on the type of bulb. Be sure to follow directions on your bone meal and bulb planting instructions.
