General Questions
Do you sell turf grass?
Yes, we have a large selection of turf grass.

What types of sod do you carry?
We stock sod for the weekends to be purchased by the piece. Normally the pieces are 18"x56" or approximately 7 square feet. If you need as much as a pallet, there is 455 square feet on each pallet. We can arrange for the sod to be delivered to your home. There is a $20.00 drop charge for less than 3 pallets. If you need 3 or more pallets, there is no drop charge.

How often should I water my lawn?
Fescue grass is a cool season grass and will need to be watered more often in the summer months. Water can be harmful as well as beneficial. Too much water can cause a fungus to start in your grass and too little water can cause your grass to die. For fescue grass water enough to keep the ground moist during the day and water enough in the evening to get it through the night.

Bermuda grass requires less water than Fescue grass. Bermuda lawns can dry out more than Fescue lawns. Harmful diseases can also plague Bermuda lawns if they are overwatered.

Every lawn is different, so therefore, every lawn has its own water requirements. Take the time to study your lawn and its characteristics. You might find that watering more often and shorter lengths of time is beneficial. This method will greatly reduce your runoff and make your grass healthier. Watering during the winter months is vital to your lawns health. Winter watering 3-4 times a month (depending on snow and rainfall) will make for a healthier lawn in the spring.

How often should I fertilize my lawn?
Fertilizing your lawn depends on what type of lawn you have and what type of fertilizer you are using. There are many fertilizers on the market today that can be used on your lawn. Sparkman's Nursery has formulated a line of lawn fertilizers for the Lubbock area. Sparkman's Special Blend fertilizer is formulated with a 21% Nitrogen that is a slow release. Slow release Nitrogens feed over longer periods of time and, although more expensive, can make your lawn more desireable. It also contains a 5% Iron to compensate for our iron deficient soil. Our Sparkman's Special Blend fertilizer is designed to green your lawn, but not cause it to grow at a rate that you need to mow every few days.

We have also formulated a New Lawn Starter fertilizer for newly sodded or seeded lawns. This formulation is low in Nitrogen and high in Phosphorus to help build a healthy root system. If high rates of Nitrogen are added to new lawns, (sod or seed) this can damage new under developed roots.
